Core Modules

Applications in Quality Management

AI-assisted intelligence is designed to support, not replace, experienced quality personnel. The following modules reflect practical operational areas where structured data synthesis and automated drafting reduce administrative overhead.

Planned Capability

Customer Needs & Feedback Analysis

Aggregating customer complaints, warranty reports, post-market surveillance data, and satisfaction surveys to identify emerging defect patterns and understand evolving quality expectations before minor dissatisfaction escalates into systemic failures.

Realistic Business Use Case

A medical device supplier analyzes multi-channel complaint logs across quarterly releases to cluster recurring packaging seal issues, identifying lot-specific trends that warrant preventive packaging line adjustments.

Implemented in Lab

Process Performance Monitoring

Assisting quality teams in tracking key performance indicators, statistical process control (SPC) trends, and capability indices (Cp, Cpk) across production cells to spot process shift and variance drift.

Realistic Business Use Case

A precision machining operation tracks shaft diameter measurements across shifts, detecting subtle tool wear variance before parts exceed upper specification limits.

In Active Development

Nonconformity & CAPA Workflows

Supporting the structured logging and documentation of internal and external nonconformances, classifying severity, and preparing comprehensive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans for engineering review and quality approval.

Realistic Business Use Case

An aerospace manufacturing team documents a containment action following a dimensional deviation, automatically structuring the preliminary nonconformance report and containment verification checklist for manager sign-off.

Implemented in Lab

Root Cause Investigation

Guiding cross-functional teams through structured root cause methodologies, including 5-Why ladders and Ishikawa (Fishbone / 6M) categorizations, testing causal hypotheses against physical observation rather than speculation.

Realistic Business Use Case

A high-volume packaging line experiences intermittent seal failures; the investigation team documents each causal hop from motor torque tripping down to scheduled lubrication lapses, verifying facts at the gemba.

Implemented in Lab

Risk-Based Thinking & FMEA

Assisting engineering teams during Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) by evaluating Severity, Occurrence, and Detection ratings, calculating Risk Priority Numbers (RPN), and prioritizing actionable risk mitigation.

Realistic Business Use Case

An automotive components plant evaluates potential failure modes for a new automated assembly cell, systematically ranking risk priorities to focus error-proofing (poka-yoke) resources on high-severity failure mechanisms.

In Active Development

Document & Audit Preparation

Assisting organizations in reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality records against international quality standards (such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and AS9100) to highlight documentation gaps and prepare evidence for review.

Realistic Business Use Case

A quality department prepares for an annual internal QMS review by scanning control plans and calibration records, identifying unlinked inspection logs prior to registrar arrival.

Planned Capability

Continuous Improvement & the PDCA Cycle

Ensuring that lessons learned and verified corrective actions translate into updated standard work instructions, revised training programs, and closed Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) improvement loops.

Realistic Business Use Case

Following a successful process optimization project, the team updates standardized operating procedures and tracks subsequent quarterly yield metrics to verify that gains remain institutionalized.

Execution Flow

A Practical Quality Intelligence Workflow

Reliable quality outcomes depend on trustworthy source data, structured analytical methods, and rigorous human oversight. AI assists in pattern identification and draft preparation, but final quality engineering decisions always remain with qualified personnel.

1

Quality Data Ingestion

System Input

Gather operational logs, inspection measurements, customer feedback, and documented procedures from verified internal sources.

2

Analysis & Pattern Identification

AI-Assisted Processing

Synthesize defect frequencies, identify recurring themes, and highlight potential correlations across historical quality records.

3

Human Review & Validation

Mandatory Quality Gate

Qualified quality engineers critically evaluate draft findings, verify physical evidence, and validate or adjust hypotheses.

4

Action Planning

Collaborative Definition

Formulate concrete corrective and preventive action items with defined ownership, target milestones, and measurable success criteria.

5

Implementation & Follow-Up

Operational Execution

Execute containment, introduce process controls, and monitor short-term verification telemetry to evaluate real effectiveness.

6

Continuous Improvement

Institutional Standardization

Update standard work instructions, revise control plans, and feed validated insights back into the organizational PDCA cycle.

Key Governance Mandate: An AI model cannot inspect physical parts, calibrate measuring tools, or observe gemba conditions. Human review and output verification are non-negotiable steps before committing to any corrective action or process change.
System Design

Architecture Overview

Describing the system components planned and under development for Quality Intelligence. Components reflect grounded engineering practices rather than unverified autonomous claims.

1. Data Ingestion & Processing

Accepts structured inspection measurements, operational logs, and procedure documentation. In the current Lab environment, all computational models (Pareto, Capability, 5-Why, DPMO, Fishbone, FMEA) run deterministically within the user's browser session. Future multi-stream connectors will ingest batch inspection records.

2. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

Rather than relying on ungrounded generative recall, the architecture pairs language models with retrieval-augmented generation. When synthesizing nonconformity drafts, the model queries internal standard operating procedures and historical CAPAs to reference exact organizational guidelines.

3. Model Integration & Fine-Tuning

Integration of foundational language models evaluated against quality engineering taxonomies (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100 terminology, 8D problem-solving structures). Domain fine-tuning is currently an exploratory development activity aimed at improving terminology precision and formatting consistency.

4. Evaluation Harness & Verification Gates

Systematic evaluation benchmarking model outputs against verified engineering ground truths. All generated drafts pass through mandatory human verification gates before incorporation into official quality records or export.

Ethics & Security

Responsible AI & Data Governance Principles

The development of Quality Intelligence is guided by explicit governance principles designed to protect intellectual property, maintain regulatory transparency, and preserve human engineering authority.

Data Minimization

Processing only the operational telemetry and quality records strictly required for the specific diagnostic or investigative task.

Access Control

Role-based governance ensuring that proprietary manufacturing specifications and sensitive customer data remain accessible solely to authorized personnel.

Appropriate Data Retention

Clear data lifecycle policies where investigation drafts and uploaded logs are retained only as long as necessary for review and compliance requirements.

Source Traceability

Every generated suggestion, cited standard clause, or synthesized root cause hypothesis links back to traceable source documents and raw records.

Human Oversight

A strict human-in-the-loop mandate where quality professionals retain sole responsibility and approval authority for all quality decisions and releases.

Model Output Validation

Systematic verification of AI-assisted outputs against physical shop-floor observations, calibrated measurements, and domain engineering judgment.

Privacy & Security Assessment

Regular evaluation of model endpoints, data transmission encryption, and local storage safeguards to protect organizational data integrity.

Limitations & Intended Use Disclaimer

1. Human Review Requirement: AI-generated summaries, causal suggestions, and draft action plans are assistive in nature and must be independently reviewed, verified, and approved by qualified quality professionals before operational implementation or regulatory submission.

2. Dependence on Input Quality: The reliability of AI-assisted outputs depends directly on the accuracy, completeness, and objectivity of input data. Biased, incomplete, or inaccurate records will produce flawed recommendations.

3. Regulatory Advisory Notice: Quality Intelligence provides general quality management support and does not guarantee ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or FDA/cGMP compliance, audit success, or certification. It does not replace formal third-party conformity assessments, official registrar audits, legal counsel, or certified quality professional judgment.
